[Liverpool, 20/01/2020] – Construction is the second most dangerous field to work in, next to agriculture. This is because it has one of the highest records of muscle and skeletal injuries among employees.
From 2017 to 2018, the latest data, almost 2,500 out of 100,000 construction workers sustained musculoskeletal disorders on the job. The Health and Safety Executive, a government agency in the UK responsible for enforcing workplace safety and health, listed more than 30 fatalities in UK construction sitesin 2018. Such injuries and deaths are often caused by a combination of improper handling of goods and repetitive action.
The prevalence of serious injuries and deaths calls for better training of site supervisorsto ensure a safe workplace for everyone in the field. Line managers, foremen, team leaders, and others who want to take on-site supervisor duties can get the knowledge and certification they need from Know-How Training Ltd’s Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).
Trusted by Industry Leaders
The SSSTS programmeis promoted by Build UK, an organisation that represents over 40% of the nation’s construction workers. It cooperates with the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Health and Safety Executive to protect the interests of the industry’s employees and other shareholders.
What to Expect
The SSSTS is a two-day course that gives future supervisors a concrete understanding of welfare, safety, and health onsite. They’ll also learn the possible environmental problems on the field and how to deal with them.
By the end of the programme, participants should have mastered the following tasks:
● Identifying major fire risks and which equipment to use for them
● Knowing the essential principles of working safely at a height
● Explaining basic noise and vibration control to workers
After the lessons, participants will be assessed with a 25-question exam and a review of their engagement, listening, and collaborative working skills. Passing candidates will get a five-year certificate accredited by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). The course costs about £199 to £275. Participants may also further their training with the company’s one-day refresher course, which costs £160.
