Tips for using an RV in the summer

The thermal insulation performance of the RV is not as good as that of the brick-and-tile structure house. It will become a big stuffy tank if it is exposed to the sun for a while. Similarly, when using the air conditioner, the RV will waste more electricity due to the poor thermal insulation performance. It has to run at full load for a long time, and the larger space causes the temperature to drop much slower than that of a car; the most fatal thing is that the electric energy carried by the RV is limited, with more than ten degrees as the mainstream, and twenty or thirty degrees of electricity is already a luxury configuration. It's hard to run the air conditioner all day.

Although there are many ways of charging, such as generators, driving power generation, solar energy, and charging piles, each has its own shortcomings. Therefore, most RV players currently use the migratory bird-style gameplay, that is, go to areas with lower temperatures to play in summer.

In addition to the "migratory bird style" of last resort, I have a few lessons for you if you want to travel in an RV in the summer as comfortably as possible.

1: The direction and location of parking
If you have the option, try to park in shaded areas, my RV is 5 degrees cooler when parked in the shade than in direct sunlight, and it's easier for the air conditioner to cool the car down. If you don't have a choice, don't put the side of your RV with more windows facing the sun, it will be much better, because the window is the weakest part of the thermal insulation performance of the RV, and the heat will enter the car through the window.

2: physical occlusion
Open the awning on your car if the parking space allows it, so that the side of the awning does not have to worry about the sun exposure. When stationed for a long time, the awning can be opened all the time, and the temperature rise in the car can be greatly delayed in the morning. Of course, pay attention to the weather, and pay attention to retracting when there is a strong wind.
Buy a good heat-insulating sunscreen in advance and block it on all the windows that are directly exposed to the sun. Ingenious riders can buy the whole piece of material and cut it by hand, and even make a roll-up structure on the window for easy storage and opening.

3: Pay attention to air convection
Most RVs have two-way ventilators—at least in the bathroom. Adjust the ventilation fan to the exhaust mode, and then open the window a little further away to allow the air in the car to flow well, which is suitable for quickly cooling the car when you first get in the car.
If the place is not particularly hot and the fan is sufficient to handle it, according to Bernoulli's principle, blowing the fan against an open window can strongly increase the air convection, especially in a space such as an RV.

If your RV also has a ventilation fan in the living area, it is best to block it when using the air conditioner and not using the ventilation fan, because a lot of heat will enter through the ventilation fan through sunlight. There are products on the market that are specially designed for this scenario. It is very convenient to clip it on the ventilation fan when using it.

4: Pay attention to the use of equipment
There are still many RVs using white woven lamps that generate a lot of heat. It is strongly recommended to replace them with LED bulbs, which save electricity and reduce a lot of heat generation in summer. When I first started the RV, I noticed that the lights in the car emitted a lot of heat, so I immediately replaced all the lights in the car with LED lights. However, when it comes to the circuit, it is best to replace it in a regular refit factory or manufacturer.

On the other hand, all the electronics and appliances in an RV generate heat. Especially the normally open refrigerators, inverters, etc., generate a lot of heat. Generally speaking, experienced manufacturers open heat vents on the car body for these devices. If there is no one, it is not difficult to open one. The related devices are readily available on the market.

Another place that generates a lot of heat is cooking. In order to save electricity, a cassette stove or a gas stove is generally used for cooking, but in the hot summer, give it up and use an induction stove instead. If the environment allows, you can also cook outside the car.
