[DENVER – 02/11/2020] – Several ailments can affect the nasal passages or sinuses and impair normal breathing. These may be allergies that could cause the sinus passages to swell, such as allergic rhinitis. They could also be nasal polyps or a deviated septum resulting in nasal congestion, obstruction, and fracture. These ailments can be treated with advanced non-invasive surgical techniques.
Peak ENT and Voice Center, a Denver, Colorado-based clinic, provides treatment for voice, sinus, and ear conditions, on top of their nose, throat, head and neck treatments.
Patients Benefit from Nasal Surgery
When a patient visits Peak ENT for sinus issues, the clinic's specialists give them a thorough examination and prescribe the right medications or procedures. When symptoms persist, the patient is re-assessed to determine if he or she is qualified for surgery.
Nasal or sinus surgery usually corrects sinus problems. The procedure widens the nasal passages, allowing for easier mucus drainage without discomfort. The widened nasal passages or sinuses also allow for easier treatment, such as saline rinses or applying steroidal nasal sprays to treat allergies.
Minimally Invasive Technique Helps People Breathe Easier
Peak ENT recently introduced in Denver its minimally invasive nasal surgical technique, the balloon sinus dilation or what is known simply as balloon sinuplasty. The outpatient procedure is based on the technology used to open up blocked arteries of the heart. First introduced in 2011, it consists of a stent or balloon that is carefully inserted into the patient's blocked sinus.
When the stent reaches the obstructed area, it expands and widens the sinus passages. The stent requires no incisions to apply or remove. It is left in the sinus passage to dissolve. As it dissolves, it releases steroid medication directly to the sinus lining. Balloon sinuplasty does not leave any post-operative scarring that could warrant more surgeries.
This new technique to alleviate sinus problems does not cause any swelling, bruising, or bleeding. Patients in Denver who undergo the treatment can expect no side effects and can look forward to a full recovery within 24 hours. Balloon sinuplasty is also available to residents of nearby areas, as Peak ENT has clinics in Brighton, Broomfield, and Golden, Colorado.
