Author Aaron McCammon presents a profoundly moving narrative in his latest work, THE WALL (THE WAR AND BEYOND). Chronicling the Vietnam War, this novel shows the trauma and often-overlooked struggles that emerge after the battlefield fades into memory.
Set in 1966, the novel follows Mark “Doc” Holliday, a young man who seemed destined for greatness. As an All-American college football star with a bright future ahead and the love of his life by his side, Doc’s life was what many dream of.
But the good things come to an end when an unforeseen accident shatters everything he holds dear. Consumed by grief and despair, he drifts away from the life he once knew until he is drafted into the Vietnam War. On foreign soil, Doc confronts horrors beyond imagination, and every day becomes a battle to preserve not only his life but also his sanity.
However, the true test of Doc’s courage and resilience comes after the war ends. Returning home, he finds himself face to face with an unexpected adversary: his own mind. Haunted by relentless memories and suffering from PTSD, Doc seeks help at a VA hospital, where he is urged to confront the very fears that torment him. Yet as he begins to examine the roots of his trauma, Doc uncovers unsettling truths about his past that challenge everything he believed.

About the Author
Aaron McCammon is a native of Tennessee, born and raised in the American South. After graduating high school in 1966, he attended college with aspirations of becoming a celebrated football star in the Southeastern Conference. Shaped by a strong Southern Baptist upbringing and life in a 'dry' state, Aaron initially thrived in his new environment. However, upon discovering fraternity life, his focus shifted from academics to social pursuits, leading to challenges both with the university and his family. His course was soon altered when he received a draft letter under President Lyndon Johnson, and before long, he found himself in Vietnam.
Fifty years later, moved to reflect on those formative and often painful experiences, Aaron began to write, giving life to The Wall (The War and Beyond). This first work awakened in him a deep passion for storytelling. Since then, he has authored three additional books: a textbook, an irreverently humorous exploration of the language of women, and a vivid chronicle of his diverse and remarkable family. Through his writing, Aaron McCammon brings readers not only stories drawn from history and memory but also reflections on life, loss, humor, and the resilience that comes from confronting the past.
