The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has recently halted the use of older fingerprint scanners, commonly known as L0 devices, due to security vulnerabilities. As of the set deadline on 30th September 2024, these devices are no longer permitted for use in Aadhaar authentication.

While many users have already transitioned to the newer and more secure L1 devices, fresh concerns have now emerged regarding certain L1 models, including the widely used MFS110 device from Mantra Softech (India) Pvt Ltd. In a recent directive, UIDAI has temporarily suspended the use of the MFS110, citing critical security risks.

This decision may result in widespread disruptions across Aadhaar-linked services. Affected users are reporting challenges in accessing services that rely on biometric authentication, leading to significant inconvenience for both service providers and the general public.
While UIDAI's decision is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the Aadhaar authentication ecosystem, the sudden suspension has triggered service outages in sectors that depend heavily on Aadhaar verification.
