Types Of Bariatric Surgeries in Bangalore

Biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch
Vertical sleeve gastrectomy
Doctors recommend bariatric surgery only if other more natural methods of weight reduction fails to have any effect. So Bariatric surgery could be an option for you if:
Your body mass index is 40 and above
Your body mass index is around 35- 39 and you are suffering from serious health issues
Below, we describe all the types of bariatric surgeries that will assist you with your decision making
Adjustable gastric banding
Adjustable gastric banding helps in reducing the stomach area, and hence the patient feels fuller and therefore takes in less food. In this surgery, an inflatable silicone band is placed around the top portion of the stomach. Along with this procedure, the patient is provided with a diet chart and exercise regime to follow. Advantages:
Adjustable gastric branding is less intrusive
Recovery time is less
This is a reversible procedure which means that if the patient wants to remove the gastric band, then it can be quickly done through a small surgery.
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery
Gastric bypass surgery is the most common type of surgery and has minimal side effects. This procedure can be performed in 2 ways.
Laparoscopy
Robotically (computer-assisted)
Description: The upper portion of the stomach is separated from the lower part during this surgery. This upper portion is connected to small intestine roux limb. Now the stomach is significantly smaller, and hence the intake of food drastically reduces. The aim is also to make the body absorb fewer nutrients or fat from the food and therefore reducing weight.
Biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch
The Biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch is a less standard surgical procedure. The procedure is performed in two steps.
Sleeve gastrectomy: In this procedure, a significant part of the stomach is removed. Only a small banana sized stomach is left out.
The surgeon connects the end of the intestine to the duodenum.
This procedure is less standard because it may lead to severe side effects such as malnutrition and vitamin deficiency. This is because this procedure not just leads to the individual taking in less food but will result in less absorption of required nutrients. Hence it is performed on patients whose BMI is higher than 50 only.
Vertical sleeve gastrectomy
The procedure called the Vertical sleeve gastrectomy was previously performed as part of the Biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch procedure. But after noting the advantage of this procedure, it is now offered by clients as a separate procedure. This procedure is a simple variant of bariatric surgery and involves multiple abdominal incisions. In this procedure also a significant amount of stomach is removed surgically to reduce the intake of food by the patient drastically. It also results in lesser absorption of the nutrients from the diet.
