Francoise Girard thanks all the women who assist each other in these unique times on International Women's Day. Hundreds and thousands of women are leaving the crisis in Ukraine today, adding to the global refugee and displaced population. The large number of women fleeing their homes, most of whom are caring for a dependent while also needing food, water, and a secure place to stay, serves as a clear warning of refugee crises are indeed women's rights crises.
Women in Afghanistan are putting their lives on the line to reclaim rights that the Taliban refuse them. Francoise Girard IWHC is right there with them, boosting their voices and sharing their tales. Sexual assault survivors in Ethiopia's Tigray & Amhara regions, and other war zones, have struggled to get the help they need to rehabilitate and regain their lives. All of these ladies have our support.
On International Ladies’ Day, Francoise Girard joins the women of Poland who demonstrated against their country's fairly close ban on abortion & repression of women's rights. It stands with women all across the world who are fighting to stop forced marriages, sexual abuse, and gender-based violence, as well as fair pay for equal labor and legislation that support family leave.
Francoise Girard supports women whose land has been taken away from them, as well as those who are teaching other women about the hazards of heat and global climate during pregnancy. They also support women who have been mistreated or persecuted because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Francoise Girard works with many strong, creative, and determined women at Human Rights Watch.
Racial discrimination Francoise Girard stands with women across the Middle East & North Africa who are fighting for independence from male guardianship regulations that limit their ability to travel, marry, educate, work, and many other activities, as well as battling impunity for female violence.
It also stands with women who are facing workplace abuse, particularly migrant domestic workers who are striving to stop forced labor, and human trafficking and ensure equitable labor protections.
