The electric lawn equipment trend is catching on in lawn care companies in residential areas, including Mountain Brook, a town of 21,000 residents. Despite a large percentage of voters supporting former president Donald Trump, this small community is converting to electric lawn care ideas. Mountain Brook spent $18,000 to switch its lawn equipment from gas to electric in just a year. According to the town's mayor Stewart Welch, the transition to electric mowers can benefit communities throughout the country.
The resurgence of electric equipment in lawn care is especially pronounced among residential lawn care companies. A survey from California's Air Resources Board found that more than half of household landscaping equipment was zero-emissions, compared to just 5 percent for commercial landscapers.
While the upfront cost of electric equipment is higher, using smaller items such as leaf blowers is usually comparable to gas-operated prices. However, riding mowers and other oversized items used by NJ lawn care services can cost more than double as much as gas. While federal rebates do not exist for electric lawn equipment, incentives are available on state and local levels. For instance, California's air quality districts have incentive programs that encourage businesses to switch to electric equipment.
As battery-powered lawn equipment has become more popular, manufacturers have started developing cordless electric products that deliver superior performance while requiring less power. Battery-operated lawnmowers and chainsaws, for example, have begun the electric revolution in lawn care companies as the efficiency of motors has improved. According to Steve Holland, senior vice president of product development at TTI, the parent company of RYOBI and DEWALT, the electric revolution is here to stay.
