"There are a number of entrance examinations that are conducted in India for the purpose of short-listed candidates for undergraduate medical courses. Various entrance tests allow admission to different colleges and institutions.
The AIIMS MBBS Entry Exam is run by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for admission to the MBBS course. The test is performed in two modes, i.e. online and offline (Pen & Paper) mode. AIPMT is a national UG medical entrance exam conducted by CBSE, provisionally in the first week of May for admission to MBBS and BDS under 15% All India Quota in Medical and Dental Colleges of India affiliated to the Government excluding Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir.
The NEET exam will be conducted online and in 11 languages — English, Hindi, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Marathi, Urdu Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, and Assamese. The duration of the examination is three hours and the candidate has to answer 180 questions. The examination paper is divided into three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology).
The National Eligibility Entry Test (NEET), formerly the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is a qualifying test for MBBS and BDS programs in Indian medical and dental colleges. It is carried out by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Applicants wishing to study medical courses must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology as their compulsory subjects in Classes 10 and 12 and must have passed these subjects. The candidate must show his passing certificate at the time of the consultation round. Marks in mathematics are not considered in the NEET-undergraduate (NEET-UG) exam.
AIIMS entrance exam is for admission to any one of the 6 branches of AIIMS (as per your rank), but NEET cracking is required to apply for any private medical colleges other than AIIMS & JIPMER. The exam is online, but the NEET exam is offline. From the beginning of 2020, students who wish to appear for MBBS from one of the AIIMS will only have to appear in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). The announcement that NEET will be the only entrance examination for admission to MBBS courses which will be subject to separate entrance examinations conducted by AIIMS and JIPMER respectively was done by the Health Minister of the country. With AIIMS MBBS gone, students seeking admission to the MBBS programs offered by AIIMS will have to align their strategies with NEET. They have to appear for NEET AIIMS in order to pursue MBBS and to qualify NEET and AIIMS.
