Pace University dorm — short for dormitory — is a place where college or university students live. One can find a lot of bunk beds in most dorms. Dorms have laundry rooms and rec rooms, and it's a place where many friendships are made. Students often study or try to avoid studying in the dorm. It's their home away from home. Dorms are also called residence halls and student residences. Worldwide, dormitories are often single sex, or sexes are accommodated on separate floors or in separate rooms in some cases. It is unusual for unrelated mixed sex occupancy of a bedroom except temporarily.

The halls of residence almost entirely have single occupancy rooms, are almost always mixed sex, with residents being allocated to adjacent rooms regardless of sex.

Though some schools require all students live on campus for their freshman (and sometimes also sophomore) year, our child will most likely have a choice between living in a residence hall owned and operated by the university, living at home and commuting to school each day, or living in a house or apartment close to campus. The pros and cons of each option will differ from school to school, student to student and parent to parent but we’ll detail each one to ensure our child select the most beneficial option.

On-Campus Housing as offered by the Harrington Housing is ideal for freshmen for several reasons. Many schools group freshmen together in the same dormitories or areas of campus, meaning our child will be living with other first-year students and sharing this new chapter in their lives with others in the exact same situation.

New York student housing gives housing priority to students living the furthest away so if we live within a certain mileage of campus, our child could be ineligible to take advantage of university housing. Even if this isn’t the case, students whose parents reside close to campus should consider living at home and commuting to school each day.
