Laminar Flow Hoods are devices used in laboratories to clean the air and make it particulate-free. There are two types of Laminar Flow Hoods, however, both of them have similar functionalities. A Laminar Flow consists of various parts. At first, the air is passed through a HEPA filter installed in the cabinet.

This filter removes all kinds of contaminants and maintains the sterilized condition in the working environment. It also consists of a filter pad, a fan, and other parts. The fan inside the cabinet sucks the air that comes in through the filter and all the dust particles get stored in the filter pad. Once the air has been filtered out with particles, it has to pass from the HEPA filter that filters out microorganisms like fungi, bacteria, and other kinds of contaminants.

Once this process ends, the contaminant-free air flows out in the cabinet where people can continue their work without thinking of the risk of contamination. The process is very quick and takes hardly a few minutes. The filters installed in the device must be replaced annually. The particles filtered out from the air might settle down in the filters creating trouble in a future time. Hence it becomes necessary to replace the filters after every year.

As discussed above, there are two different kinds of Laminar Flow Hood, Vertical Laminar Hood, and Horizontal Laminar Hood. These two laminar hoods differ on various bases. While the former can be installed in a small room, the latter requires a large storage space because of its size. However, both of these Laminar Hoods serve the same purpose.
