There are two ways to modify diesel cars. The first method is that the original diesel engine structure is basically unchanged, and it is modified according to the electric ignition method, that is, it works according to the working principle of the gasoline engine. The fuel system of the original diesel engine is completely removed, and the compression ratio is reduced to a value that natural gas can bear.

In addition to the components of the natural gas fuel system-gas cylinders, pressure reducing valves, mixers, etc., an electric ignition system must be added to become a single fuel natural gas vehicle that only burns natural gas. This modification method is relatively simple and the technology is relatively mature, but it can no longer work with diesel, and the engine power loss is relatively large, only about 65% ~ 70% of the original diesel engine.

The second method is that the fuel system of the original diesel engine is unchanged, plus the same natural gas fuel system as above, the general compression ratio does not need to be changed. After the engine cylinder inhales a mixture of air and natural gas, a small amount of diesel is injected from the original diesel injector for ignition. After the diesel is compression-ignited, the combustible mixture of natural gas and air is ignited to work. This is the dual-fuel natural gas shifter.

The basic working principle is that full diesel is used when starting, the negative pressure of the air and gas mixer is transmitted to the diaphragm mechanism under load, and the diesel high-pressure fuel pump rack is limited by the pump rod. At this time, the driver depresses the accelerator pedal again. Just increase the flow of natural gas fuel.

The dual-fuel working mode not only does not lose power, but also has good combustion performance from natural gas, and can also slightly increase the power of the original diesel engine. This is because the diesel engine has a high compression ratio and the original number of over-empty grandchildren is relatively large. This modification method has the least changes to the original diesel engine and can be converted to full diesel operation when the natural gas supply is insufficient.

But this kind of work is not very good in terms of economy and emissions at medium and low loads. Therefore, it is not suitable for city buses without adding additional means to overcome these shortcomings. It is best to use this modification method for vehicles that have been in medium load for a long time and long-distance transportation vehicles.
