An Expert’s Insights For Writing Your First Tender Proposal

Last week, we had the opportunity to attend a tender writing panel discussion with some of the leading names in the industry.

During the Q & A session, we interacted with Tim Entwisle, director of Madrigal Communications and one of the experts present .

Entwisle has worked on a plethora of business communications and technical writing projects for the past three decades. He has also provided his expertise to government organisations and large corporations. Currently, Entwisle serves as a director at Madrigal Communications, a specialist copywriting agency in NSW.

We asked for his advice for first-time tender writers, and he was kind enough to share his insights.

“While tender writing is a time-consuming and demanding task, it is not as challenging as you might have thought. In fact, setting up a tendering process can make things easier. Firstly, I suggest you start by identifying suitable tenders you want to win. Competing for every tender is not feasible or possible. Since writing tenders requires time and resources, it would be best to compete for tenders you have a genuine chance of winning.”, says the expert.

Entwisle continues, “Even if you are short on time, do not try to rush through the process. I urge you to carefully read and understand the buyer’s requirements to avoid making costly mistakes.”

“Lastly, it is crucial to follow any format specified by the buyer. Try to stick to useful information and refrain from including irrelevant details. Also, do not wait until the last minute to submit your proposal. It is always smart to plan for unforeseen circumstances” concludes the expert.
