Blogger Dilara Jahan is the popular name social media in Bangladesh for expresses strong views on women's empowerment, social, political, and human rights issues. She has thousands of followers on social media. But for his opinion she is often scorned and insulted by a certain class of people.
In 2018, She came to Bangladesh for a visit, and although She narrowly survived but suffered serious injuries. Then She became mentally disturbed. Later She started writing again after managing herself. Recently, a case was filed against her under the Digital Security Act of Bangladesh based on a post on social media.
A case has been filed by Noakhali's Chatkhil Upazila resident Omar Farooq, claimed blogger, Dilara Jahan defamed him. The case was filed in the Cyber Tribunal Court of Chittagong on February 23, 2022, under several sections of the Digital Security Act 2018. Tribunal Judge SKM Tofail Hasan registered the case and ordered Chatkhil Police Station to investigate and submit a report.
Plaintiff Omar Farooq claims that he is a local dignitary. As a result, he has to participate in various arbitrations in the area and give various decisions. Which always goes for someone and against someone. People whose decisions go against them may hold grudges at different times. But Blogger Dilara Jahan gives slanderous and defamatory fake status in his name (Omar Farooq) without any fact checking. Dilara Jahan paid no heed to his protestations of attention. Due to the status of Dilara Jahan, his family and social status has been seriously undermined and damaged and he is mentally disturbed. He demanded maximum punishment for blogger Dilara Jahan.
If found guilty in this case, blogger Dilara Jahan will be punished with imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 500K BDT or both.
Blogger Dilara Jahan said on social media that after the attack, her voice has been trying to silence with state-sponsored lawsuits. But She vowed to continue her fight.
