A commercial vacuum cleaner comes in two categories; a canister and an upright. Choosing between the two is a matter of both personal preference and cleaning needs. However, there are pros and cons to both. When choosing a commercial vacuum cleaner it is always best to know which one will suit you better.

With a canister vacuum, many people enjoy it for its compact ease of use. It is perfect for getting under low furniture such as a coffee table. It can also reach into areas that an upright commercial vacuum cleaner cannot. Because they are portable, they are extremely lightweight. You don't have to struggle while going up and down the stairs with the canister vacuum. The weight of this type of vacuum cleaner is in the canister. You can easily use push it across the carpet and bare floors. There is also a lot of storage space that you can save using a canister commercial vacuum cleaner. These compact machines can fit just about anywhere. And most models come with a retractable cord so you don't have to wrap the cord before you store after each use.

The cons of a canister are that they tend to be a little bit more expensive, especially if you compare it to an upright model of the same quality. Some people do not like the fact that they have to pull a canister behind them as they move along. For some it takes less effort to push an upright then it does to pull a canister. Then you have to be careful while cleaning and make sure that you watch the hose. You can accidentally damage the legs of the furniture if you tug too hard on the hose.

The upright commercial vacuum cleaner has many advantages. It glides easily over the floors and is simple to store away. Many models today are self-propelled so it is easy to move the vacuum back and forth. In another feature you can find in a modern upright is that it comes with the ability of wide range maneuvering and reach that was once only found in the canister. With attachments such as the hose you can clean under furniture, reach into corners, clean upholstery and bare floors. You can even purchase models so you can reach staircases; because they now feature telescoping hoses that go up to 15 feet and more. Plus for those who have always complained about bagged vacuum cleaners, there are now many bag-less upright commercial vacuum cleaners.

For the cons on an upright, unless you have a model with attachments, you would not be able to reach difficult and/or tight spaces. In addition, the upright will definitely take up space inside of your closet. Then unless you choose a lightweight model, it will be difficult to go up and down the stairs with the upright.
