Anything that gains faction is fashion.
Fashion is always sprouting innovative ideas and has always served the purpose to highlight certain issues. These issues could be political or domestic, basically, it is used to draw attention to issues which the sufferer might feel are neglected by society. It also remains one’s personal choice, giving the person a way to identify.
According to fashion (current) news model recently wore plastics and fishing nets (often seen in sea waste) in the form of a flowing gown to signify the urgency of ocean waste management. Many wore red and orange at protests after the California wildfires.
The latest fashion news says that the fashion industry is being highly scrutinized for the waste generated and an extreme level of water usage. Images have gone viral of factories releasing toxic dyes (some visibly steaming) directly into oceans, seas, and lakes. Later photographs showed the entire water body (or a large area) turning to that specific color. After heavy criticism, many designers and business persons came together and are working towards sustainable fashion.
The first mention of sustainable fashion was seen in the footwear industry. There is a significant figure of footwear that is biodegradable and recyclable. Now, almost every part of the fashion industry has a sustainable seed sown in it. Not to mention, the youth today are self-aware and are trying their best to reduce wastage.
Most brands are self-analyzing and producing biodegradable (or sustainable) products. Many have even started recycling centers for their used items. Usually, it is seen that brands promising sustainability also have inclusivity (or diversity) for people of all genders and regions.
The pandemic has, however, affected everyone and a lot has been either put to hold or slowed down.
The trending styles in the latest fashion news are all cotton and hemp. Some experts say that the type of material matters less. It’s the concentration that is of the utmost importance. This makes it easier to recycle whole clothing.
In fashion’s current news, all the important brands like ZARA, H&M, and Versace have promised to help with climate change and many have started to either reduce waste or make products recyclable.
These brands have certainly ensured no loss to air or water bodies occur and will cut down on water consumption once a ray of hope shines on them (after the pandemic).
