[12/08/2020, MAKATI] – The 2019 novel coronavirus or COVID-19 has accelerated the Philippines’ shift to going digital, from education to commerce. In particular, the pandemic has pushed Filipinos to embrace contactless payments and mobile or online banking. As a result, banks and other financial institutions have had to fast track the development of accessible digital financial solutions.

One bank that has succeeded in this endeavor is The Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation or RCBC. Lauded as the “Best Digital Bank in the Philippines” by the Hong Kong-based Alpha South East Asia’s Best Financial Institution Awards last June, RCBC has since bagged two more international awards for being a digital banking innovator.

International Recognition from Global Financial Awards

Last July, London-based financial publication The Global Economics announced the winners of their bi-annual banking awards, which seek to “recognize the achievements and excellence within the global banking industry.” RCBC nabbed the “Most Innovative Internet Banking Service Provider” award in the Philippines.

In addition, Asiamoney, a financial publications established in 1989, named RCBC the “2020 Best Digital Bank in the Philippines” last September. According to the organization, it was RCBC’s DiskarTech app, which combines English and Tagalog text within its interface and provides digital financial services such as bills payment, fund transfers, and no-deposit savings account creation.

Eugene S. Acevedo, RCBC president and CEO said about the awards, “We are more than grateful to the international observers for recognizing our efforts in our bid to bring financial services to the unbanked and underserved sectors in the country especially during these challenging times where the pandemic has already changed our way of life.”
