Local game developers now get the opportunity to learn from experts in the field as DOST 7 launched the first ever game application development project in Central Visayas.
Dubbed as “Game App Development Project: Enabling the Next Generation of Gaming Entrepreneurs”, the project aims to institutionalize the first enabling space for space developers in the region.
It is undertaken in partnership with Matic Hub, Valhalla Online Services, Spartan Race, and QBO Philippines who will provide industry-level education and training to the local developers.
Also called the “Level APP Project”, it also aims to afford local game developers the opportunity to benefit from the fast growing game market by serving an enabling platform where gaming experts share their expertise with the next generation developers.
Study shows that the Philippines 43 million gamers spent $572 million on games in 2020 alone, making it the world’s 25th biggest market by game revenues with the preference for mobile optimized games.
DOST 7 Cebu Provincial Director Byran Ybanez, underscored the importance of this DOST-funded project, saying “the software and game industry is now regarded as the innovation driver of the creative industry and the economy as whole ” and the present project is “in support to the creative industry and innovation sector”.
He added that a Level Up Council composed of professionals, entrepreneurs and government and academe stakeholders will be formed. The council’s task is to craft a three to five-year road map, launch training programs, and provide professional consulting services in developing spartan mobile gaming apps.
