TONE Dermatology is a privately owned practice in Chicago. Owned by physicians, this modern practice has an impeccable record of accomplishment. The founder is a board-certified medical and cosmetic dermatologist, specializing in ethnic skin dermatology, as well as culturally inclusive aesthetic medicine.
According to Dr Caroline Robinson, MD, FAAD, the founder and owner of TONE Dermatology, “Be bold in 2022. With only 3% of dermatologists in the USA being people of colour, there is a problem with the deeper understanding of ethnic dermatology. People with darker skin tones have unique challenges and their problems, such as the high prevalence of hyperpigmentation, should be treated with the necessary respect. You are entitled to ask when phoning for an appointment if there is a dermatologist that specializes in ethnic skin. At TONE Dermatology, you have entered the right building. We do extensive research on the matter and as advocates for diversity in dermatology, we treat every patient with the best possible solution to mend their problem, irrespective of race or skin tone.”
Because darker skin tones contain larger melanocytes and more melanin, it is more likely to develop hyperpigmentation after inflammatory conditions such as acne and eczema.
When skin cells are damaged by inflammation, the pigment drops out and forms deposits in the skin, referred to as remnants. This pigment is responsible for causing dark spots.
Pigment cells and inflammatory cells are near each other, causing increased stimulation. Clogged pores and pimples are the primary cause of acne. Research has revealed that people of colour are uniquely prone to dark marks around clogged pores, which is unexpected because clogged pores have been identified as non-inflammatory cells.
TONE Dermatology has an all-inclusive philosophy and understands the apprehension of people of colour when they visit dermatologists, who may not have the necessary insight and know-how to treat the skin of colour.
It is highly recommended to contact an experienced dermatologist regarding skin conditions like rosacea, acne or eczema. Besides treatment, they will be able to advise on day-to-day treatment and routines to nurse the skin back to health. Dermatologists recommend a gentler approach than rubbing and scrubbing, which may cause irreparable damage.
Choosing appropriate skin products such as cleansers toners and moisturizers after being treated for the root of the problem, is very important. Rather apply the treatment more often than stripping the skin of natural oils, which will in turn stimulate more oil production. Do not pick poke or pop anything. Keep the face a hands-free zone. Apply spot treatment instead, which will dry out the infected area and reduce inflammation. The regular use of acne-clearing masks and peels will assist with the alleviation of redness.
It is imperative to follow the advice of highly skilled dermatologists from TONE Dermatology, who are well-trained to take care of ethnic skin. Topical medications, such as BHA, benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid, are highly recommended by dermatologists.
Combined with the use of LED device treatments that penetrate the skin, causes different reactions, by targeting different issues, leading to tissue repair and the rapid healing of wounds. The energy from the LED device targets bacteria and inflammation while stimulating collagen production.
