Tone Dermatology was established in 2020 by founder Dr Caroline Robinson, a distinguished academic, researcher, executive, award-winning dermatologist and philanthropist. The practice is widely recognized for its revolutionary and innovative research and development in the field of ethnic skin dermatology.
According to Dr. Caroline Robinson, MD, FAAD, the founder and owner of TONE Dermatology, “The practice of culturally inclusive medicine is what we stand for and believe in and we are privileged to address the issues and research regarding ethnic skin dermatology. Hyperpigmentation affects skin of color more severely and unfortunately these conditions are still frowned upon in certain communities, therefore we are ready to educate, uplift and inform the people whom we resemble, with expertise and knowledge about treatable skin disorders.”
Dark spots, referred to as hyperpigmentation, is formed when the skin produces excess melanin, the colorant pigment in the skin, affecting people of all skin types, but specifically darker skin tones, because of the higher melanin content already present. Burns, bruises, acne, rashes, or other trauma, can also trigger the formation of dark spots.
Because the appearance of hyperpigmentation, adversely affects patient’s self-esteem, TONE Dermatology recommends effective and innovative treatments that are readily available to address the problem and improve psychological wellbeing.
A combination of treatments are often the most successful way to resolve the problem of hyperpigmentation and obtain the most effective results after the implementation of a treatment plan. By using chemical peels, IPL treatment and a combination of medication and specialized treatment creams, outstanding results are achieved.
A great example of a combination of treatments, is by using hydroquinone, a retinoid, and a corticosteroid. Hydroquinone is an exemplary topical skin-lightener for hyperpigmentation treatment in skins of color. Other effective solutions are the use of mequinol and retinoids, like tretinoin and adapalene.
Chemical peels are professionally done by a highly trained staff complement at TONE Dermatology, and is a revitalizing treatment, effectively eliminating dark spots, while improving skin tone. The correct treatment strength will be formulated by the clinicians and be applied by a qualified technician, layer by layer, under strict supervision.
TONE Dermatology recommends chemical peels for rectifying several skin disorders, working its magic on age spots, wrinkles, fine lines, acne scarring, melisma and uneven texture and tone. With an incredibly short recovery period, the results have real staying power.
Flaking, peeling or even micro shedding takes place after the procedure, but after recovery new, refreshed and rejuvenated skin is revealed.
The non-invasive IPL or Intense Pulsed Light photo facial yields excellent results for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, by correcting hyperpigmentation, and improving skin texture during short treatment sessions. The recovery time is rapid, and causes no disruption to daily routines, with only mild side effects presenting itself.
It is a most suitable treatment for any part of the body that endures maximum sun exposure. Customized light pulses are absorbed by the melanin in the skin, where the pigment is broken down, eliminating dark spots.
TONE Dermatology, besides doing groundbreaking research and excellent procedures, also commits to pro bono work on the South Side of Chicago where skincare products are donated to woman’s shelters, to spark hope and inspire.
