[Los Angeles, CA June 13, 2021) – Even though May is Mental Health Awareness Month, sadly the issues of mental health are an everyday pandemic, enhanced by the worldwide pandemic we now know as COVID-19. That is why author Lisa M. Sanchez wrote Looking for Love in a Garbage Can. A Journey of Healing: How I Survived an Alcoholic Environment.

Now available on Amazon, this memoir describes in chilling details the author’s life living in a violent, dysfunctional and chaotic home environment ravished by mental and physical abuse due to her father’s alcoholism. Readers will ride along on a journey to revisit the drunken episodes, child molestation, teen pregnancy, and other life experiences, which impacted the author’s mental health, self-esteem and self-worth. As an Adult Child of an Alcoholic (ACOA), Sanchez’s environment impacted her interpersonal and love relationships, which led to looking for love in a garbage can or in all the wrong places.  Despite the difficulties, readers will find there is a path forward through forgiveness, perseverance, resilience and a determination to heal from childhood trauma.

Described as “riveting, emotional, healing, uncomfortable at times, yet funny,” this book is for adults experiencing domestic violence; drug or alcohol addiction; crippling codependency on a partner struggling with drug or alcohol addiction; depression; or anyone who just simply needs help developing a personal life plan to break free of their current circumstances.
