The Return-to-Duty employees need to undergo SAP evaluation, before resuming their position in the company. The employees who have violated a drug and alcohol normmust take the test and their rehiring in the organization will depend on the positive or negative outcome of the same. They also must complete the return to work programbefore taking the RTD test.
Why should I take an SAP assessment?
A company cannot afford to continue the services of an employee who has violated the DOT drug testing regulations. It is not safe for the successful running of the business, for other co-workers and will cost the company a monetary fine, if found out. If the SAP assessment is successful, a compliance report is sent to the client’s employer or if the SAP discovers that you have not co-operated in the treatment, he may file a non-compliance report too.
The Return-to-Duty Procedure
The RTD procedure varies with the company and industry rules in which the person is employed. Affordable Evaluations lists the following steps that need to be followed to ensure that the working environment is safe for all:
1. The employee who violates the drug and alcohol rules is immediately removed from his employment in the company.
2. A face-to-face interview is set up with a DOT qualified Substance Abuse Professional who will assess the employee’s situation and prescribe the DOT substance abuse programthat must be completed by the employee before RTD.
3. The Affordable Evaluations SAP will guide the employee throughout the treatment program and get him prepared for the RTD test to resume his position in the company.
4. The appointed SAP will then schedule an appointment with the Designated Employer Representative in the employee’s company.
5. Once the treatment is completed, the candidate is recommended for a RTD test and if the result is successful, the employee can start working again in his organization.
Not a One Time Process
DOT requires an employee to take a follow-up RTD test bi-monthly for at least a year. Although it may vary according to the company policies, the follow up tests are conducted under the supervision of Affordable Evaluations appointed SAPs even up to 5 years. Apart from the follow-up tests, the company is also entitled to conduct random drug tests on its employees, whenever it feels necessary.
