The story is based on Dudley’s chance encounter with a sweet little girl, Emily. What was supposed to be an after-school fishing trip to relax for Calvin soon turned into a moment that was an eye-opening realization. This trip led Calvin to realize that committing or making a promise could mean so much for someone that it could alter the way they might interpret the world and the actions of people.

Calvin made a promise to Emily that he would give her his next catch. Emily was delighted to hear this. However, when Calvin refused to give her his catch since it was one of his biggest catches, she was not disappointed or heartbroken. Instead, she was understanding.

The book aims to remind us that the people we meet or come across in life, even briefly, can alter the direction of our lives. Due to Emily, Calvin is reminded of his calling: to guide, to teach, and to lead with love and faith.

He has dealt with children who have behavioral and emotional disorders and disabilities. He aims to bring his own life experiences, humor, and heart into every chapter of this book.
