The global fetal monitoring market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 7.6% during the forecast period. The major factors contributing to the growth of the market include the significant rise in preterm births and birth rates and emerging demand for portable fetal monitoring systems. As per the data published by the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 15 million babies are born preterm (before 37 completed weeks of gestation), and this number is growing. Nearly 1 million children die annually due to preterm birth complications. Preterm birth is the major cause of death in children under the age of 5 years. The preterm fetus is highly susceptible as compared to full-term babies which leads the risk of intrapartum hypoxia-acidosis. Therefore, fetal heart rate monitoring system is used for the surveillance of fetal hypoxia in labor. The fetal heart rate can be monitored with the use of either a continuous electronic recording or intermittent auscultation. Continuous electronic recording can be performed with the use of a fetal scalp electrode or an external ultrasound transducer, placed on the mother's abdomen to check the fetal heart rate. These electronic methods results are shown as a cardiotocograph (CTG) trace. The tocograph is a simultaneous uterine contraction recording, and thereby CTG trace offers a visual continuous record of uterine contractions and fetal heart rate. Certain features represent a severe emergency, including the development of persistent bradycardia following placental abruption or cord prolapse. Therefore, significant incidences of pre-term birth rates are leading to an increasing adoption of fetal monitoring systems in hospitals and diagnostic centers to help clinicians assess the well-being of the fetal earlier.
