(UK, 27/09/2022) With around 25 percent of professional jobs becoming remote by the end of the year, the need for IT support will increase. Remote work opportunities have increased from about 9 percent at the end of 2020 to more than 15 percent today, and this number is only expected to grow.
As more people work remotely, the demand for IT support will continue to increase. With so many people working from home, there are bound to be technical issues that arise.
With Remote Work, an Increase of Cybercrime
An assessment by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) of the impact of the pandemic on cybercrime showed a significant shift from individuals and small businesses to major corporations and governments.
The inter-governmental organization's private sector partners detected around 907,000 spam messages and 737 malware-related incidents from January to April 2020. The same period also saw the detection of 48,000 malicious URLs.
Businesses must guard against an array of risks when employees work remotely, from the loss or theft of devices to phishing scams and malware infection. The increased use of personal devices for work purposes will only exacerbate the vulnerabilities. Similarly, the number of remote employees will also increase the number of entry points into a company's network.
Increased Demand for IT Support
A survey conducted in 2021 showed that 90 percent of participants felt they were just as productive, if not more so when working remotely compared to office work. The same survey found that 74 percent reported improvements in mental health, and 84 percent said they would be happier working remotely even if it meant a pay cut.
This surge in productivity and satisfaction has led to a corresponding increase in demand for IT support. The demand emerges from the lack of capabilities among small businesses in handling their IT needs. And these days, businesses need comprehensive IT support to protect themselves against online threats. Aside from protection from online threats, IT support can also provide data backup and private cloud services suitable for the needs of businesses.
