Shotguns are used for hunting, and hence they to be cleaned on a regular basis for their smooth functioning at the time of requirement.

Whether you go in a field, to a shooting range, or for hunting, a clean firearm is essential for proper operation. But, many shotgun users find it challenging to clean up their weapons. So let us take a look at how you can clean your shotgun in 6 simple steps. But, before you start with the cleaning process, you need to make sure that the firearm you are about to clean is empty.

Now, let us take you through the cleaning process.

1) Partial Dismantle

The dismantling of your shotgun is based on the type of shotgun you use. If the shotgun is an automatic one, it is important that every moving part of the weapon is cleaned thoroughly. Pump-action shotguns can be completely dismantled in small pieces.

2) Degreasing

The second step of cleaning up a shotgun is degreasing the firearm with the help of aerosol solvent or a degrease powder. But applying these products in sensitive areas like the trigger and other spring sections is a bad idea. The main parts that need to be degreased are the gas chamber, the barrel, and the choke tubes.

3) Swabbing the Barrel

The next crucial step for pre-bathing a shotgun is cleansing the shotgun barrel. Clean swab the barrel with the help of a BoreSnake rope. Drop the rope through the barrel and pull up the shotgun to cleanse the barrel. It would help if you made sure of using a clean BoreSnake rope.

4) Brush the Chokes

Use a brush made up of brass attached to a cleansing rob to brush the firearm's choke tubes. Spray some cleaning solution into the choke tube and start brushing the tubes with the brass brush. You can use straws to clean barrel threads.

5) Clean the Action

Many professional firearm users do not prefer oiling the action area of the shotgun. If the action is oiled before use, powder and dust particles might stick in the moving areas. You can clean the section with the help of cotton and then lubricate the piston and springs of the weapon.

6) Reassemble

Once you follow all the above steps, look out for any unclean part of the shotgun, and then you can reassemble the firearm. Once the weapon is reassembled, check its functioning by firing some blanks. This verification process is crucial as you do not want your weapon to get stuck when needed the most.

Now, your gun is clean as new. Make sure everything about the firearm is functional.
