January 31, 2021: “The Seeker” is a book of poems written by Juan Valdez that aims to take the reader through a journey of profound spiritual realization and epiphany. The poems in the “The Seeker” describe the initial stages of the seeker’s life as he goes through the trials and tribulations of life. The reader deeply feels the experience of romantic love and loss that are felt by the seeker. In due course of time, his experiences of love reveal the truth and life lessons that the seeker comes to know and become wiser in the process. The seeker also understands the importance of change, metamorphosis and rebirth and how these ideas are closely linked to a metaphysical worldview about life itself.

Through the joys and hardships of life, the seeker comes to develop a deeper understanding about philosophical as well as metaphysical elements of human existence and life and the visceral experiences that it has to offer beyond anything that is superficial. Children come into this world all crying, helpless and even fearful to some extent. However, they are still forced to deal with the challenges of life rather suddenly and dramatically. Even if children are totally dependent on their mothers to survive when they are born, they eventually learn to become independent entities in their own right. Ultimately human life is a quest for people to seek love, truth and knowledge and a place to call their home.

The seeker explores various spiritual, metaphysical and theological feelings and ideas in his life and cultivates a way of thought reflective of an “Eastern mystical worldview”. This helps the seeker to learn about the answers to some of the questions that he has. The seeker also finds a way to achieve ascension and illumination in his spiritual path or journey that brings a greater sense of belonging and connection to the universe. The seeker also ponders about the deeper questions of life and how humanity and the society at large are influenced and changed both mentally and spiritually through the life experiences that they have. The seeker also realizes that even though there is a certain separateness among individuals, ultimately all human beings as well as all living entities in this grand universe are interconnected to one another.
