MY STORY
My name is Marina and I am a fine art photographer. Photography first captured my attention at the age of 9. I began with the disposable cameras my mom would buy me from Walgreens and slowly it became my life’s passion. Through art I have been able to reconnect to my own culture and have developed a deeper understanding of the universal human connection.
Beyond being an artist, I am also an Urbanized Native (P’urhepecha) person. Despite having lost many of my traditions, language, and living nowhere near the traditional lands of my ancestors, I find myself on a path of reconnection. All of the teachings and traditions that have been in my family since time immemorial have been passed down to me.
Now, I believe my duty is to maintain them and apply them to my life now to build a better future for myself, P’urhepecha relatives, and all Indigenous people.
